A central provider of testing solutions is working in collaboration with external partners to develop a COVI-19 testing facility in Milton Keynes. This laboratory will be a hub for sample processing nationally and it is expected to receive and process a high volume of samples daily. In order to support the facility, the organisation are now looking for a Principal Scientist to join them on an initial 6 month fixed term contract.

The Principal Scientist will be responsible for the method development, validation and documentation of all sample processing requirements within the centre. They will be responsible for managing all pilot studies, developing and maintaining appropriate documentation within the quality management system, the analysis of pilot study results and the compilation of reports to articulate the findings.

They will manage training of staff, to the required standard, in all new processes prior to hand over to Operations. They will also be responsible for the assessment, implementation and operation of new technologies for all new processes and troubleshooting of assay methodologies if the need arises. Finally, they will have a major input into the development and maintenance of ISO standards 9001 and 15189.

Requirements
Educated to degree level in a biomedical discipline with at least a Masters (preferably PhD) in a relevant area
Strong experience within nucleic acid extraction and the methodologies for extraction and quantification. Ideally within a commercial, academics or NHS laboratory.
Experience using LIMS for tracking sample manipulation
Knowledge of the requirements of HTA licensing and quality management programme operation experience.
Experience project managing in a scientific environment.
Ability to communication and influence effectively with a wide range of individuals.
Motivated self-starter with a pro-active approach to all aspects of their work including implementation of new technology or methodologies, quality or productivity improvements, problem solving or identification of new partnerships that adds value to collaborators projects
